liked

Really liked — with the stated frame that his default whites are Pinot Gris/Grigio, and this was way dryer. The dryness itself was a big part of the appeal.

critics/consensus

Taut, unoaked Premier Cru Chablis — green apple and lemon over a saline, oyster-shell minerality, all steel-bright cut and Kimmeridgian tension, with finesse rather than weight.

The vintage

A mild, dry winter brought early budbreak; early-April frost caused some damage but far less than the catastrophic 2021. A hot, dry summer was rescued by timely rain in June and August, and picking began early, around the end of August.

A generous, ripe yet fresh vintage — a return to normal volumes after frost-scarred 2021. The 2022 Chablis pair ripe orchard and stone fruit with firm acidity, marrying the cut of 2021 with the flesh of warmer years; balanced, approachable, and age-worthy.

Vineyard

Kimmeridgian marl — Late Jurassic limestone-and-clay rich in marine fossils, including the comma-shaped fossil oyster Exogyra virgula.

Left-bank Premier Cru slope; cool semi-continental climate with real spring-frost risk.

The Forêts (Les Forêts) climat, a Premier Cru flying under the Montmains flag on the left bank of the Serein; this cuvée is drawn from a small ~0.37 ha parcel.

In the cellar & winery

100% stainless steel, temperature-controlled (confirmed for the 2022 Forêts) — no oak, to preserve acidity and site transparency.

Raised in stainless steel on fine lees; unoaked. Typical alcohol for the wine is around 12.5% (vintage-specific figure not published).

Sourced from a single ~0.37 ha parcel within the Forêts climat; dry.
