Massolino (Azienda Agricola Massolino - Vigna Rionda)

Founded in 1896 by Giovanni Massolino in the village of Serralunga d'Alba, the estate is one of the historic family names of the commune and is now run by the fourth generation. Long a traditionalist reference point for Serralunga, Massolino is best known for its holdings in the legendary Vigna Rionda cru — the family farms roughly a third of it — alongside other top Serralunga sites such as Margheria and Parafada.

A Serralunga-focused estate whose vineyards sit on the older, poorer Serravallian (Lequio-formation) marls that give the commune its power. Winemaking is traditional: long macerations in temperature-controlled fermenters and ageing in large Slavonian oak botti rather than small barriques. The straight 'classico' Barolo blends several parcels across Serralunga d'Alba (with a small share from Castiglione Falletto in some years) and is aged up to about 30 months in large casks — comfortably beyond the DOCG's 18-month wood minimum — to express the village rather than a single site.
