Bodegas Manzanos (Fernández de Manzanos)

A family house in the eastern reaches of Rioja whose grape-growing and wine-selling tradition dates to the 1890s, based around Azagra on the Navarra side of the region. The 'Manzanos' brand was created by the family's fifth generation, and a new, modern winery was built in the early 2000s. Brothers Víctor and David Fernández de Manzanos have led an expansion of the business in recent years, with vineyards spread across both Rioja and neighbouring Navarra.

Fruit for the top wines comes from the Rioja Oriental subzone (the warmer, Mediterranean-influenced eastern part of Rioja, formerly Rioja Baja): old bush-vine parcels more than 50 years old on the northern side of the Ebro near the villages of San Adrián and Azagra, and in the higher Yerga Mountains. Ageing follows the traditional Rioja model, using a mix of French and American oak barrels.
