A mature, hedonistic Saint-Julien: crème de cassis and morello cherry deepened by cigar box, forest floor, and leather, with fine-grained tannin, racy acidity, and a long, mineral-tinged finish — power and polish in one glass.

present in this bottle’s notesThe vintage
2005 was one of the Médoc's near-perfect years: a consistently warm, dry summer without punishing heat, through one of the driest stretches on record, with just enough timely rain at key moments to keep the vines balanced. The even, unhurried ripening gave small, thick-skinned, concentrated berries.
A benchmark classic vintage — deeply structured, pure, and built for the long haul, marrying ripe fruit to firm tannin and unusually fresh acidity. Twenty years on, wines like this Léoville-Poyferré show the mature, savoury complexity of the year while retaining tension and lift.
Vineyard
Deep Günz gravel over sand, clay, and limestone — warm, free-draining Left Bank terroir.
8,500 vines/ha; mature vines including old Cabernet Sauvignon planted in the 1940s. An unusually Cabernet-heavy blend this year, with no Cabernet Franc.
The estate's five core Saint-Julien blocks, the best of them near the D2 (Route du Médoc) where the vines intermingle with Léoville-Las Cases and Léoville-Barton.
