critics/consensus

Opulent, plush value-Pomerol: crème de cassis and dark plum wrapped around graphite, damp iron-clay earth and firm, grainy tannin — a superstar from a great Right Bank vintage built for two-plus decades.

The vintage

A warm, dry spring and early summer drove even flowering and fruit set across Pomerol and the Right Bank; timely rain in August relieved drought stress and carried the Merlot to full, healthy ripeness. Feytit-Clinet picked from tiny yields between 18 September and 4 October.

2015 was a great Right Bank vintage, especially strong for Pomerol and Saint-Émilion: opulent, deeply fruited, plush wines with ripe, generous tannins and the structure to age. In Feytit-Clinet it produced a rich, concentrated but balanced Pomerol built for the long haul.

Vineyard

Gravel, clay and sand over Pomerol's iron-rich clay subsoil.

Vines average about 35 years; 8,000 vines/ha; grapes sorted twice, before and after destemming.

The estate's ~7 ha holding on the western Pomerol plateau, near Clinet and Latour à Pomerol.

In the cellar & winery

Fermented in small (46 hl) concrete vats plus a pair of stainless-steel tanks at 28–29°C, with 4–5 weeks on skins; malolactic in barrel.

16-18 months in about 70% new French oak.

From tiny yields; harvested 18 September – 4 October 2015. The wine rests on its lees for several months for added depth.
