Great — 'I'd drink those any day.' Almost bought another bottle at the last in-store K&L visit. Very impressed for the price; value amplified the verdict.

critics/consensus

A fresh, firm, restrained Saint-Julien for the cellar: cassis and blue fruit over a chalky, pencil-box minerality, framed by tobacco leaf and creamy oak, with sharp-etched, grainy tannins built to age.

The vintage

2022 was a historically hot, dry year in the Médoc, with extreme drought and repeated heatwaves. Yet relatively cool nights preserved acidity and aromatic freshness, and older vines reached deep gravel to find water, so the vines came through the heat better than expected.

A paradox vintage: concentrated, ripe, and deeply coloured, but with surprising freshness, precision, and grippy structure rather than jammy heaviness. In this Gloria the year shows as a tightly wound, firm wine that needs cellaring to unfurl.

Vineyard

Deep gravel over clay and limestone — classic Saint-Julien Left Bank terroir.

Cabernet Sauvignon-led planting with a large Merlot share, plus Petit Verdot and a little Cabernet Franc.

Parcels dispersed across Saint-Julien, originally carved out of neighbouring classed-growth vineyards.

In the cellar & winery

Standard Left Bank vinification at the Domaines Henri Martin cellars.

About 14 months in barrel, with a portion of new French oak.

Bottled July 2024; roughly 17,000 cases produced.
